Inter‑Society Membership
The By Laws of the Inter‑Society identify four member classifications:
• Charter
• Active
• Associate
• Trade Association
A brief description of each membership category follows.
CHARTER MEMBERS
This category consists only of the five founding trade organizations. No further
groups may be admitted. The charter members are:
• International Theatre Equipment Association
• National Association of Theatre Owners
• Motion Picture Association of America
• Association of Cinema and Video Laboratories
• Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers
ACTIVE MEMBERS
Any reputable firm, whether corporation, partnership, or other entity, or any individual
engaged in any business affecting or dealing with cinema presentation may become
an active member upon approval of the Admissions Committee and payment of annual
dues, currently set at $500 per year.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
Active Members’ overall criteria apply except an associate member may not vote or
hold office. Annual dues are set at $100, which entitle associates to attend meetings.
Voting policy permits “one membership, one vote.” For instance, if a company is
an active member, several employees of the company may attend the meetings, but
only the person whom the company has delegated as its representative may vote. The
company designates this person at the time of applying for membership. At the company’s
option, the voting delegate may change, upon advising the Inter‑Society’s
Executive Director of the change in writing.
TRADE ASSOCIATION MEMBERS
These members are treated similarly to active members with respect to admission,
voting, and dues payment.
The Inter‑Society was founded upon and continues to maintain an “open door
policy” with regard to meeting attendees.
